1970 Plymouth Superbird sells on Craigslist for $55K

Rare find or basket case? Either way this back-lot 1970 Plymouth Superbird with a 440 6-pack was snatched up by a new owner after spending less than a week on the popular classified site, Craigslist. At $55,000 this “restoration ready” project vehicle sold for approximately half of its restored value.

The Superbird saw limited production of just 1,900 units in 1970. As Plymouth sought only take build the minimum number of unit needs to have the car homogenized for use in NASCAR. The car’s distinctive aerodynamics might have been worthless on the street or strip, but the proved invaluable to Richard Petty on the oval. In 1970 he piloted his car to eight victories, but finishing fourth in the points, losing out to another aero warrior: the Dodge Challenger Daytona.
