Muscle cars battle for top position atop AutoTrader’s new car list

Ford decision to put the legendary 5.0 liter engine back in the 2011 Mustang GT is finnaly paying off. The Mustang wrestled away the top spot on AutoTrader’s new car list for the first time since the Chevrolet reintroduce the Camaro last year. Since may of 2009 the Camaro had reigned supreme on both AutoTrader’s board and dealership lots.

Ford over took Camaro is sales for the first time this month, but still trails the Camaro by nearly 11,000 units for the year. Only time will tell if Ford waited too long to introduce the new 412 horsepower 5.0L found in the GT and the new 305 horsepower 3.7L V6 that power the base model, or if Camaro can win the annual sales race for just the fourth time since 1968.

“ATLANTA, June 8 /PRNewswire/ — Americans’ love affair with muscle cars continued on AutoTrader.com as the new Ford Mustang claimed the No. 1 spot on AutoTrader.com’s most-viewed new vehicles list in May, followed at No. 2 by the new Chevy Camaro.  The new Ford F-150 pickup truck slipped to the No. 3 most viewed spot in May from No. 2 in April of this year, but average asking prices for new F-150s listed for sale on AutoTrader.com continued to climb, up more than 8% compared to the average listed prices in May of 2009.”
