Auld Lang Syne: December 31st last day to order 45th Anniversary 2011 Mustang GT350

2011 Shelby Mustang GT350

When the clock strikes twelve and the Big Apple drops in Times Square the last order will be booked for the 45th Anniversary Shelby GT350. The GT350 America’s first production race car debuted in limited production in 1965. When Shelby America made a mere 562 units. The limited production along with the car’s undeniable sleek looks and performance cemented the car in American auto lore. Shelby hopes the 45th Anniversary model will capture the same attention by capping production of 2011 model.

The 1965 Shelby GT350 was first revealed to the general public on January 27th of 1965, the same month that Shelby-American moved to its Los Angeles International Airport facility. With a price of $4,547, it was the first race-ready car ever to be marketed by an American auto maker, but was too expensive for most consumers.

The 2011 Shelby isn’t cheap for that matter either. The new bred is the first GT350 produce by Shelby since 1968. (The 1969 and Shelby GT350 and GT500 were produced “in house” at Ford’s Kar Kraft Engineering skunk works.) -Sadly, this is no production car (like the 2006-08 Shelby GT).The Shelby GT350 up-fit completed by Shelby American has a MSRP of $33,995 and does not include the price of the base car. That’s right, a $30,000 2011 Mustang GT plus another $34,000 grand means just like 1965…. it won’t be parked in more than a handful of garages.

Shelby American’s limited anniversary edition GT350 can only be created using a white 2011 5.0L Ford Mustang. Ford Motor Company has stopped building 2011 Mustang GTs as it transitions to the 2012 model. Shelby American can help customers locate a proper donor car for transformation into a GT350 from the small pool of cars available across the country. However, once they are gone, no more 45th anniversary edition GT350s will be built.
